For varied, rather than monotonous instrumental lessons, the need for new teaching material has always been of topical interest. In his experience as a teacher Franco Cesarini has always appreciated the rich choice of material from the past. Thanks to technical improvements arising from the spread of the Boehm system, literature with the purpose of studying various aspects of the flute developed during the 19th century. As well as methods that explore the technical side of the instrument, there is now an increasing demand for studies that concentrate on its musical, interpretative and expressive qualities. Additionally, the need to prepare young flutists for new sound idioms is becoming more and more important. The studies in this collection are ordered in increasing level of difficulty, each offering the opportunity to deal with varied material going beyond the usual major and minor scale.
The études in this book can be played in concerts or examinations, or combined to create little “suites” of three or four pieces of contrasting character (for example Imps Dance, Nocturne, Slow Dance and Major and Minor).
On the enclosed CD you’ll find complete recordings of all the pieces; these are only meant as a guide, as every player should search (and find) his or her own interpretation.
